Oil warning.....

I've had my oil change warning blinking on my odometer for a few days now, and the oil was changed 500kms ago, not by audi. Is it true that audi has made it so that they have to reset the warning light, so that people would go to them for oil changes.

...is in no way actually linked to oil levels/pressure, so there is no need to check oil levels if he just got the oil changed. That indicator is merely a reminder to get the oil changed every 5k or 7k miles (I can't recall off the top of my head what Audi's recommended oil change interval is at the moment). If he had the flashing/beeping icon of the 'oil can' in the center display, then there would be reason for concern of checking the oil levels as that warning IS triggered by the oil pressure sender.
Also, the tech article on resetting the indicator/reminder is good for 98+ model years only. If his car is a 97 or older, the only way to reset is with a VAG COM.
Hope this helps.

yeah i knew all of that... i just thought it wouldn't hurt to take 10 seconds out to check the level before he reset the light, that's all. but nice job being clear, i often leave out stuff for the sake of conciseness.
