I'm not necessarily surprised by this, but it may be helpful to some others who don't like how much oil their car burns...

I used to run with 10W-30 Mobil 1 and noticed that my car burned about 1 qt every 2500 miles.

At the last change I switched to 5W-50 Castrol and now my oil usage has gone to half of the above.

(Both are OK for my climate per my owners manual).

The reason I get less oil use is the 50 weight at normal (warmed up) engine oil operating temperatures. If I had 10 weight equivalent (close to yours) then I'd get more oil usage - but not as much as the 30 weight...

I just got my Audi (2000 A4Q)but I've been using Mobil 1 0W30 extreme in my other cars (Corvette, Mystique and Pathfinder)with good success. Cold weather starts are a breeze. According to Mobil's tech line, you can use 0W30 in any vehicle which is recommended for 5W30, 10W30 or 10W40. The Pathfinder has 122K miles and doesn't use any oil between 5K changes. The Mystique(61K-high rev V6)uses maybe a quart in 5K. The Vette (83K) only changes once a year and uses little or none in 3K.
