Default ok another BRAKE question

I am going to change my back brakes next weekend. The dealer says I need new pads and rotors. I am just helping someone who is basicly doing it for me. They told me to order the parts. I'm new to all of this. Do I need any parts besides the pads and rotors? Also, someone suggested an A8 brake upgrade, what does this involve and how much more would it cost me?

Thanks in advance and please include any tips I can pass on!

Default Stock plain rotors and PBR ceramic pads for the hardware. Liquid wrench and piston compression tool

for the tools.

Default What? Real work? Not driver's footwell lights?

The A8 big brake kit is only for the front wheels; you retain the stock back brakes which don't do a lot of work in off-track driving.

PureMS has a kit for the big brake upgrade that includes rotors and the caliper carriers. You keep your stock calipers and can use whatever standard A4 pads you want. As Nate said, ceramic pads are good, but I wouldn't just put them on the rear unless you're going to upgrade the front pads to ceramic soon (either on the stock brakes or bigger brakes).

Installing the A8 big brake kit shouldn't really be very difficult if you or your buddy have done much work with brakes. It would be a cinch for a pro.

NOTE: You'll need at least 16" rims if you're going to install the A8 big brake kit. 17" if you do Stoptech or Brembo.
