Here are some things I found on that code, and what has been done to remedy the way the car is running.

Some people say to look into the throttle body and check if its clean or dirty. It might not hurt to clean it, then do a throttle adaption. New TB's can be expensive, so try the cheap route till then.

That is a 2000 model I believe. So it should be a 30 valve V6. It will have DBW (drive by wire). If you have a vag-com clean the TB, clear the code and do the TB adaption. If that doesn't fix it, then its probably time to replace the TB based on the code that the ECU is showing.

just my obd2 scanner
so I am not sure if I should tell the owner to order a new tb, but I do this will it set its self or will i still need to have the adaptation done by someone with vag com

the ownership also says 1999 not 2000

ps I did try to re set the code and I worked for few seconds then the same code came back once I started reving it.. the reving is **** so slow and low rpm.. also the exhaust smells as if its running rich some times smoke

If thats the only code, then it is the TB. A cleaning and adaption might be all that's needed. A new one will be expensive. Here is an example.

Double check the TB again. If there is a throttle cable going from the TB to the gas pedal, in is non DBW and vise versa. If the door sticker says it is 05/99, it should be a 30v V6. You should make sure what engine and verify the TB.

What state are you in? You might be able to put feeler post out there for the assistance of someone who has a Vag-Com or a scanner with throttle body adaption capabilities. This forum has a regional forum section as well as VWVortex.

if I remember right on the driver side of the tb I think I saw a cable will check tomorw.. dont want to remove it just to clean and then put it back on to find out its still no good.. if the owner does not mind getting a new one and I just install it and all is good i think thats a good way to go. I will check tomorw if i can see a cable but its a tight area to work on

I did try disconnecting the battery for a bit and re connected it then tried the 6min of key on run didnt make a different nor did I hear and tb sounds like I have seen with some vws

but now I am thinking even if I change the tb I still need vag com to set it.
which I dont have.
