Default A4 is fine with just a baby seat.

But I had my brother, sister-in-law, and 14 month old nephew in the back all last week, and it wasn't fun for them.

I think just a seat would be fine till the little tyke gets bigger. Then it's time for an A6.

Default Evenflow On-My-Way, Cosco Alpha-Omega (longish)...

Hi,

My daughter is 6 months old (today!), and I'm
on my second car seat in the A4.

The first one was the Evenflow On-My-Way seat
which is the infant carrier (bucket) which
clips into a fixed mounted base. We bought an
extra base and were able to put her in either
car just by clipping in. It was great because
the bucket is easy to carry, it clips onto most
every shopping cart I've tried, and fits perfectly
into a booth seat at your favorite restaurant.
This is the carrier that comes integrated with
the stroller - very nice package.

Unfortunately, when she hit about 25 inches in
length, her feet were touching the seat back,
(remember the seat is rear facing) so I had
to get a new seat.

My second seat is a Cosco Alpha-Omega seat
which has a 5-point restraint system. Two
shoulder straps clip together and then into
a buckle that comes up between the legs. This
seat converts into a booster that's ultimately
good to 80lbs, so I expect that this will be
the last carseat I buy. I don't recommend this
one for newborns - it doesn't recline enough in
the A4.

The seat very nearly touches both front seats
(it's rear facing until 1yr + 20lbs), so I could
not push either seat back all the way. I'm 5'10"
with relative long legs for my height (32" inseam)
and I'm comfortable, but if your legs are longer
than mine, you may have a problem with this seat.

Getting carseats into the A4 is tricky business.
Best to get a device called the "Mighty Tight"
that Kris Hansen (thanks Kris!) turned me on to.
It fits on the lap belt and allows you to take
up slack in the belt for a really tight fit. I
found it at Babies-R-Us.

One final note, becuase the rear becnh slopes
down at an angle you will have to use something
to shim the carseat so that it's relatively level.
I've had good success with a stiff foam sleeping
bag matt that I got at WalMart with some duct
tape wrapped around it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! I also have an A6 so getting another one would kinda be useless.

Default Cosco Alpha-Omega ------->

I am also using the Alpha Omega -- we actually have two, one for each car. Here it is in my old A4 ... it now serves duty in my S4 Avant (same rear passenger space). This is a great, mid-priced child seat and fits well in the A4's smallish back seat. We also used an Evenflow rear-facing infant seat, though I don't remember the model off hand ... it was from of those all-in-one, SUV-of-strollers things. : )

The back seat/passenger area is cramped for baby seats (rear facing), make no mistake about it. Our infant seat *only* worked in the recommended center-seat location. If we had another baby tomorrow, I'm not sure how I'd do both an infant seat and our child seat (the AlphaOmega) since infant seats in the outboard position require front seats be moved forward.

Default Re: Cosco Alpha-Omega ....Ditto,ditto

We have the same one Alpha Omega, Actually we have 2 one in each car. It is great, and ours does fit fine behind the passenger seat. BTW Costco Wholesale club sell them for $99.00 the only down side is that is blue not black, We took the sign from Costco and got the price match at Babies are Us to get the black one.
