Default

Isn't this due to the largish flywheel?

Default Yeah, sort of ...

My 98.5 Avant's clutch has the same characteristic: the take up occurs almost at the top of the clutch throw; the throw, meanwhile, feels like about, what?, five miles?

I test drive cars for the local newspaper. It still takes me a minute or two to get used to my own car's clutch after driving a different manual tranny (even an Audi) for a week or so.

I've also asked my service dude to check this out; I've been told that its normal (natch) and that since the clutch is hydraulic, it can't be adjusted.

Default Ok ... now when I am driving fast should I do anything different cuz ...

When I am shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd FAST I get a throw back in my car .. I could be coming off too fast on the clutch BUT how do I compensate for this.

When I am driving slow, I can work with my speed to avoid the bucking of the car ... but when I am "taking off" seems like I have no clue what I am doing eventhough it is not my fault (I think)

any suggestions ?

Default No, the rpms hang only after running hard in gear, ie, building boost...

if you blip throttle in neutral (no load), rpms do not hang. I believe that under load, the system (BV valve) momentarily maintains a level of boost even after you lift throttle. This is designed to avoid turbo lag between shifts. There are more knowledgable people here who might like to correct or add to this!
