Default OK it's done...G-Tech'd the Pontiac Grand AM SE and it wasn't pretty...as I suspected this POS will

whip a stock 2001 A4 1.8TQMS in the sprint to 60. I'm in no way a fan of the Pontiac...anything but. I just noticed that when I picked this car up from the rental place that it had way more pick up that I was used to from a rental car. I did a little investigation...it's a V6 puts out something like 175 BHP...it's FWD...hmm feels peppier for 175 HP than I would expect. It's rather clear it's geared for off the line performance because it has 0 pick up on the highway.

Anyhow I had a suspicion that this pile of $HIT just might be able to out do a stock 2001 A4 1.8TQMS...well let the numbers fall where they may...

First Run 6.99 Seconds (Just punched it)
Second Run 6.91 Seconds (Torque Braked till 3G and let it go...this was a good launch...little wheelspin but not too much)
Third Run 7.00 Seconds (Just punched it)

So that works out to 6.96 this is even with or a bit faster than the 2001 A4 1.8TQMS *sigh* the worst part is once I figured out the proper amount of torque braking I'm sure I could break into the 6.8X area and I can assure you a stock 2001 ain't going anywhere near there...as a matter of fact unless you're deft with the clutch and launching the AWD car even a chipped A4 could get served...that's F'ING sad.

Hmm I'm savin' my pennies ~400,000 of them for APR Stage III so I don't have to lie about having gotten my *** kicked by a Pontiac Grand Am SE ;-(

Regards,

James R.

PS - I don't wanna hear about suspension squat...the car felt pretty level...maybe a little squat, but not enough to throw it way off...

Default Aww c'mon, James! I thought you were a man of science. :) I'd take those numbers........

with a grain of salt. I'd use them as RELATIVE numbers, rather than ABSOLUTE numbers. When you get your rig back, run it with the Gtech and compare the numbers relatively. With my Gtech, I never quote specific times. I just say on the same stretch of road back to back, this car was 0.5 relative secs faster than that car, etc etc.

Mmm, or is your point that you've already done Gtech runs with your A4 before? And its numbers were slower than this piece of American lug?

Default LOL no...I don't take these numbers very seriously...yes I'm a man of science of course...

that having been said and understanding the principles by which the G-Tech derives its numbers I can tell you it's probably accurate to no worse than say 5% but hey...I could be wrong.

Anyhow...I've never G-Tech'd the 2001 so no I can't do a real comparo...plus I hate trying to do really good 0-60's in my A4's because it's hell on the clutch. All I was getting at is...don't think you're gonna lay the spank down on some Pontiac Grand Am...you may sit there thumbing your nose at the guy next to you...but if you're not quick on the gas and the stick he'll have earned the right to **** in your wheaties ;-)

BTW - I hate this boat...chassis flex like mad...light steering / imprecise...torque steer out the wazoo...the styling is ghetto fabulous...it just sucks on all counts...but it's not a snail by any means.

Regards,

James R.

Ok, so I will give it the 0-60, but how does it feel over 100?
