Default k04 has my vote

you don't seem like a speed junkie. It is a solid upgrade that won't make you break the bank. I could have gone 28rs but decided against it because there really hasn't been a need for it. Even now running the k04 on apr 1.0bar programming, the car feels solid. It's daily driveable but i can make it more aggressive depending on how i drive with it.

You know a fmic is required for pc16 correct?...

twentyvalve's car seemed to be pretty solid and he was running the k04 with pc16 + fmic + exhaust.

I'm happy with the K04... but when i have more resources available to me, i would like to go gt series...

my next "power" upgrade will be hammer file + injectors

I wouldn't say they K04 "blows *** on longevity." I've had good luck with mine. Depends on tune.

From what i've seen it's heat that gets them... I think track time is a real killer... (again, heat)

Default I've got ~20 track days on mine, plus driving up the Colorado mountains about once a week.

I doubt many people push their turbos harder than I do.

Who knows? <shrugs>

Default Hmmph. I was going to pull the 'ol trigger last night... couple places never got back to me.

So I am still undecided.

Current thought is this:

K04
PC-16 SW (I have these now)
310 injectors. (Have these too)
Adj FPR
Dual side mount IC's (I have started working on that anyway and have all the stuff)
Labree HFC to help keep things cool (maybe?)
Bigger/additional oil cooler

Take the rest of the $$ I would have spent on a GT**** and buy some real suspension to get rid of the "Allroad" look. ;-P

Default Sounds like you have a great plan for the most part.

I personally have serious concerns about the PC-16 file, though. Chances are you'll be fine, but I've heard of several people having headaches with it. I'm just not willing to go through that for *maybe* a little more peak HP than I have now. Besides, I doubt it's any faster than mine since I've got good area under the curve.
I think the only K04 B5 A4 I've been in that's faster than mine had the J31 file.

Default Oh, and one more thing.......

I've considered an oil cooler, but don't think I'll get one. I see oil temps of 250+ on the track, but by then I'm ready to pull off anyway. I think 260-270 is still pretty safe with a good oil and regular change intervals.

Default Good points, thanks! I am at sea level so that helps me a lot...

It also is coastal Maine so temps are very reasonable here 99.9% of the time.

Good point on the oil cooler...... I think I'll put my efforts into porting and polishing the housings or something. ;-)

An "after-run" timed and/or temp sensitive coolant pump seems like a good idea though? Sort of a simple/easy turbo timer.

Do you have any thoughts on the high flow cat? That's the one thing i am quite unsure on. Either a HFC or maybe a ATP manifold... but i hate to mess with the mani as mine is still nice and sealed - if it isn't broke... fuss with it 'till it is right.
