Seems like you spent all your money on modding ..
.. rather than fixing the car. With wheels, tires, shocks and exhaust you have probably $2500 you could have spent maintaining your car. Problem is you have champagne tastes and a Seven up budget. Wheels that wide are gonna cause lots of problems with suspension and bearings. And with a harder suspension everything is gonna work loose. There are plenty of those 96's with over 150,000 miles on them so "it ain't nothing to do with the year". :-|

if 18 inch cause all kinds of problems then how does everyone else deal with them...
and why didnt i ever hear/read anything like that. I have spent twice the money on maintenance that i have on modding and yes you are about right with your estimate of 2500, but there are more mods that i have done and plan to do. I mean christ are my wheels causing all my rattles and bearings and ****e to go bad?

Probably not...
They certainly don't help, but I doubt that they hurt all that much. I wouldn't put too much thought into it...Audi wheel bearings are notorious for failing. I think in later models they changed the hub/bearing specs. That may have been done to address reliability. I don't know. Switching to the newer wheel bearings probably isn't possible without changing a lot of suspension bits, but I don't know (I'm just addressing the next question you're going to ask).

it's a lot of labor since it's behind the dash. When I have a used car out of warranty, when the
costs per month of keeping it running correctly start to get near the price of a (new or new to me) car under warranty with putting a nice down payment on it, I sell.
Over the last 13 months (miles probably in the high 80Ks to 106K) with my '95 90, and doing a lot of the work myself and buying parts online, it was some where in the $250-300 range per month of repairs. There was a visit to a dealer that I couldn't handle as well as a CV boot/joint repair on the road. Those weren't cheap. Almost none of the repairs were engine related. That 12v V6 2.8 was bullet proof. The parts were killing me and I was tired of having dirty hands.
I moved onto an A4. who knows... that time could be soon again... 62k miles and counting...

normal at your mileage. I've changed them all at least twice
all the things you mentioned have failed on my car at least once. I attribute that too mileage though.
reading your list again, you dont have really bad mechanical issues. just normal wear stuff.
and yes, no matter what anyone tells you, stiffer suspension and less sidewall will affect your suspension components, but most are willing to live with that.

Liam

that is where i am now, still have almost 2 years left on my loan...
and the monthly repairs bills are probably averaging out to be the same as my loan payments. Like you said I could have a new warranteed car for that amount.
