A friend was nice enough to give me the left overs from his recent alcantera install on his Suckus (lexus), and I used it on my shifter plate. The "soft touch" paint on my shifter plate was peeling off (damn Audi), so I sanded it down and installed some alcantra in its place. I bought a can of 3M spray glue, and it seemed to have worked very well.

To better match the interior, I guess I could switch to a black alcantera shift boot and ****, or get some grey alcantera and try that route.
Overall, easy job, and better than spending $80 to replace the shifter plate with a new one which will just peel in another year or so. Damn Audi.
...ALSO...the freakin' shifter plate on our '03 A4 is already peeling as well. Damn Audi.
