Ok..question for people who take there car to the 1/4 track

I want to run my car at the track on Sunday. I was wondering if anyone has any good tips on take offs and such. Like what RPM you take it to? Good shift times and what gear do you finish in?
pic to make ya look!!!! lol

What kind of clutch do you have?
I leave the line at about 4900-5100k rpm, I blip the throttle right on the last yellow. Then dump the clutch and hit full throttle. Usually leaving the line with some wheel spin, but not too much hopefully.
After that, pretty much lots of practice till you get the hang of things. Street driving and drag strip racing are so different.
If you have Apr or pes kit I would shift at 7k in 1st,2nd, and in 3rd shift at 6800k then finish in 4th gear. Of course you can always play with the shift points.. You'll see it makes a difference.
If you still have the ko3 I would shift a lot earlier, maybe 6k? Haven't really experimented with those shift point on the ko3. Maybe someone can speak up on them.
Just have to try out what works best for you.
Good luck and have fun!

Factory Clutch.....

I have a MTM stage III turbo kit. So I am guessing the shift points are about the same for the APR & PES.
Thanks for the help!!!

when you say dump the clutch.....
are you literally just sidestepping off the pedal & letting it go. or is there some release with your foot, just really fast?
as you release the clutch, how much do you usually let your RPM's drop? or do you just mash the gas as you sidestepstep off the clutch & it hooks up @ the RPM it is at & spins the wheels?
i think my main problem is i am still trying to "slip" the clutch as i am trying to hard to baby the car.... mabye i just need to learn how to be a bit rougher with the car?
thx for the info

I dump it, no mercy ;)
I don't let the rpm drop when I drop the clutch. But at the same time watching the boost gauge and making sure I dump the clutch at 0 psi, 5k rpm.
I let off the clutch and at the same time I feel the clutch grab then foot on the floor.
Happens all really fast. I figure if it breaks it breaks, what you going to do right?
I have noticed that on some drag strip days. I can launch pretty good at 4900k, but on other days I need to launch at 5100k. Or I bog if going to low of an rpm. A good healthy wheel spin seems to produce better times. All track dependant.
Let her rip charlie, no mercy Altho I must admit, I never launch on the street anymore. If I break something I want it to break while I'm trying to lay a time down.

Pratice launching before you hit the track
With the oem clutch (Especially older ones) you will fry the clutch if you are not careful. Once it is glazed - you will not get great runs that day. So you should practice.
My first time I ran 18.9! I think the smoke finished before I did, I reved it to 4k and tried to quickly feather it in to build boost. It could not handle it... The rest of the night I had to baby the clutch. The key is not to bog down and lose boost, then you have to wait to get back in the happy boost range.
With a good aftermarket clutch you can dump it - but you need to learn what your clutch can handle. My problem was that I thought I could race the car, but on the street you do not really launch - so I needed to learn how...
