Default :Old school guys: : Stripped my thermos. housing thread, Cant helicoil it....... Help!

the inner most bolt wasnt going in right and i knew it, but it stripped SO EASILY (tried to see if it would catch)

problem is that i cant helicoil it bc i only have a 13mm helicoil kit and that would be too big for the
housing flange

i tried to cut the bolt shorter, but the threads still wont grip what do i do? Go a size bigger?

Default I'd first try wrapping aluminum foil around the bolt, but since you cant un-cut it, i dunno

If that doesn't work I'd then try a bigger bolt. I've stripped threads so badly before I had to go 2 sizes bigger + aluminum foil + thread lock. But I'd try not to f--- up that badly on a bolt as important as the one for the t-stat housing. Just be patient with it. I'm not sure about the 1.8t but the torque spec for the t-stat housing on the v6 is 7 ft pounds, so its clearly rather delicate. hope this helps, if not; next step is a tap + dye set.

Default thanks for the sugg. guys, gonna......

im gonna try the jbweld first, clamp it and see if I can tighten it tomorrow

Whoever has replaced their Tstat knows that it needs quite an amount of pressure to seal right....

hope this works...... Thanks fellas appreciate it

Default just make sure you...

degrease it well. I'd spray some laquer thinner in there then blow it out with compressed air, multiple times.

Default Changed my mind, just went w/ the regular tap 5/16 thread size

another thing is that this thread runs right through

I cleaned it out w/ a q tip and the thing went right through, so at that point i decided against jbweld.

Id rather do it right instead of going on a chance that i "may" be able to tighten the bolt in the weld later on.

I might have to modify the flange to get the cap screw to fit (5/16x 3/4) But other than that it should be alright

after all i helicoiled my atp mani and was ****ting bricks if i messed up...

this should be ok, if not please let me know

BTW: i think i can helicoil it bc they fit .... Just gonna throw one in there for the hell of it...
