once the cv joint is clicking, there's no point in repacking it correct?

The clicking indicates that the joint is not smoothly gliding. Repacking may help, but you'll be back in a month to replace it. For the amount of work it is, save up for the new joint and put it on in a few weeks (depending on how long you have been clicking!)
