One last Avant/roof rack question:

I bought a fairing for my Avant's new Yakima rack -- how far forward should the fairing/front crossbar be positioned to most effectively minimize wind noise? Should the fairing be mounted behind the sunroof, or forward of it? What's the optimum setup for all you Avanters?
Thanks a pant-load,

I got a new Yakima rack several weeks ago without the fairing - it wasn't in stock at the time. I got the Lowrider towers and two Steelheads and the noise wasn't too bad. Once the fairing came in, I had to cut about 1.5" off the back end of the Steelheads and drill new holes for the endcap pins in order for the fairing to fit behind the open sunroof.
Now there is no noise with the sunroof shade closed and very MINIMAL noise with it open. I can't see any other way of mounting the fairing and still having the sunroof tilt up unobstructed. IMHO, the brackets holding the fairing to the crossbars extend a bit too far forward. I have a bunch of pics before and after the fairing was installed which I haven't uploaded yet. Email me and I can send them out tonight.
