From the pictures, it looks like you might have interference with the shifter (Or with the iPhone, depending on your perspective)

The iPhone docks at an angle, and is on the long side for a PDA-type of device. I have an iPod touch- same size, but a little thinner. If I put my iPod touch in the same position, the base of my shifter **** (Or my hand) will hit it shifting into 2nd, 4th, and maybe reverse. Perhaps another good alternate location is in the well under the armrest- perhaps under the carpet lining at the bottom (So if something leaks or spills, the dock point has a little protection). Obviously, the rub is that you lose the ability to hold extra drinks there while docked...

and the base it weak in holding it. It's not made for a moving environment. It doesn't lock in. You could probably count the time it takes to fall out on the first drive it's installed in the seconds or minutes. Loose things near the gear shift FTL.

Use rivets to attach a piece of fiberglass underneath, which would act as a support. You could then grind down the rivets, much like bodywork. Glassing can be alot of work, but small amounts like that might really pay off. Rivets are necessary because FG does not stick to plastic...
Of course, I think it does go to say that the progress you have made does look nice- Things look tight and flush, and it doesn't look cobbed at all.

I have my dock mounted in the ashtray, which allows the climate control unit to help stabilize the ipod. Even so, the ipod probably jars loose at least once a day. (picture shows my old 3rd gen 20gb before it pooped on me.)

Otherwise it'll work loose every time you shift - rocking back and forth with kill the mount/base/plug in short order.
