OT: Anyone watching the 60 minutes special on Columbine shooting?
Unbelievable facts coming out about this story is making my mouth drop to the floor again and again....
- Swat teams didn't get there until 45 minutes after 911 call.
- Swat teams didn't enter until 3 hours after 911 phone call, about 2 hours after the two punks killed themselves.
- Once the teacher that was bleeding to death was found by Swat team, they evacuated studnets first, and it then took another 45 minutes until parametics actually got to the teacher.
- Tons of threats that the school knew about
- When Swat teams entered the building, they didn't go to the rooms where 911 calls came from where police knew that injured students/teachers were, instead they patrolled the first floor, the opposite end of where all the comotion took place.
Good show, although it's been ages since I've watched a 60 minutes special, this has me hooked...

Schools aren't battlefields (now they are...) so SWAT teams have no training in school situations.
Schools are unique environments in that they have lotsa children, who panic a lot more than adults (no flames, I'm 15...). Makes things very interesting for handling a violent situation.
Still doesn't make up for the late response times tho.

Re:
Yup, I hear you. Just seems so ... wrong? ... that the Swat teams didn't enter the buildings in formations, as they are trained to enter hostile environments, such as hostage situations, they are trained to enter buildings cautiously expecting booby traps, bombs, and setups, and they are trained on hostage rescue scenarios.
If anything, I think this has taught a lot of people a lot of things... I hope.
