OT but hilarious... You have to read the origin of our favorite word.
In ancient England a person could not have sex unless you had consent of the King (unless you were in the Royal Family). When anyone wanted to have a baby, they got consent of the King & the King gave them a placard that they hung on their door while they were having sex. The placard had F. U. C. K. (Fornication Under Consent of the King) on it. Now you know where that came from.

Actually, I believe it came from ...
(F)or (U)nlawful (C)arnal (K)nowledge. A sign that was hung for adulterers when in the town square. I guess its time look up the Oxford English dictionary I guess.

The meaning came from both.....
As they referred to having sex outside of your marriage, or before you were married. The King's Consent was for people who wanted to have sex but not get married, this would help avoid scandall if the woman got prego while not married to you.
And the other translation (for unlawful...) is what they would say if you had sex (carnal knowledge) with someone you weren't married to.
Both terms somewhat carried the same meaning (sex without marriage), and launched the career of many comedians.

Just to do what I can to stem the flood of misinformation on the net
I know this because my wife told me the same stories. I refused to belive them so I looked up the etymology in a few dictionaries.
The word **** derives from scandinavian words like fokken and fokka which mean to breed or to copulate. This is not as entertaining as the other explanations, but it is probably more accurate.
