Default Ouch - 1/2 ltr of oil in 20 miles

I have an A4 3.0 Quattro Avant 2002, and been observing higher oil consumption after 75K and a cambelt change (1 ltr every 1500 miles). Today on a motorway jaunt, I checked the oil at a service station, was reassured that it was halfway down the dipstick, but 20 miles down the road the oil light came on! Checking again, the dipstick was at minimum.

I've noted no blue smoke, no oil leaks or anything like that, so any ideas why this might have happened???

Cheers

Default Check the coolant?

Is the color 'normal' ?

This sounds strange...

1 litre every 1500 miles is, according to Audi, within spec

Default Re: Check the coolant?

Funnily enough, had to top up the coolant for the first time ever last week... but colour seemed normal. Now which way is the leak (hmmm)?

Default at this rate with no signs of leaks or burning.....

i'd check the pvc system to see if the valve is ok. on my 1.8T it's called a pancake valve. yours may be on one of the valve covers.

Default Thought you may have a leaking head gasket

Coolant would be brown.

Add some oil, and keep an eye on it (check daliy if possible)

After driving wait ten miuntes and check level.
