Overheated 1997 1.8t. My son drove it w/ no coolant. New head or new engine?

I recall very few posts where people have overheated the engine this badly...
Actually, in 6 years of posting here...I can't recall a specific incident where someone has overheated to the point of losing compression. You could try searching the forum just in case.
