overheating '96 CAb 2.8L Thermostat? waterpump?
My Cab started overheating on me. The temp guage would go up but I could control it by turning my heater on full blast. Then the temp would go down BELOW normal. Makes me think the thermotat is stuck open not allowing the coolant enough time to cool. I traced the coolant lines - but can't find the thermostat housing! It ain't where it is supposed to be...in the return line to the radiator.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the write up on changing the thermostat & waterpump? Prefer a writeup in an email or other online source.. Don't need the AllData stuff or any 'pay now' sites.
Many thanks

A comment....
Sounds like you need a new radiator. The t-stat is supposed to be fully opened when the coolant is above temp. Generally, the t-stats on Audi's V6 engines are fairly reliable. Its usually waterpump bearings or the rads that go. I replaced ours at 58k, which was leaking at a side seal and also loosing its ability to cool. The temp gauge was slowly creeping higher over time. One other comment, the headgaskets on those engines might take one overheat(even one is risky!!), but the 2nd time your chancing a warped head and popped gasket.

You're in the wrong forum buddy
You need to go to the 80/90/Coupe/Cabriolet forum. They're better equipped to handle your question. Not that we can't, its just that nobody really specializes in your car here.
