A.P.B. PAINT EXPERTS ADVICE NEEDED...
My hood is messed up. What kind of paint should I use on the car. ('97A4, pearl black?) What should I ask potential shops about my car and its paint?
Can they match the color with the rest of the car? Should I look on line to find a used hood and trade it out for the one I have.

Take it to a qualified body shop... they will take the paint code from the Door Frame Sticker...
Most qualified body shops have paint systems that can digitally custom mix the paint for an exact match... a good shop can even compensate for age and fading...
Usually on a hood repaint, the shop will blend into the front fenders, A-pillars, and front doors...
You should be asking on this forum for a recommeded body shop in your area.
Only replace your hood if you have unrepairable collision damage...
