The padding on my armrest has broken off around the edges. The dealership quoted me $87.44 for a replacement lid. Is there a cheaper alternative? Has anyone repaired one of these before?

I assume you mean that the plastic has broken off on the underside of the padding? if so here is what i did.
1. take the lid off at the hinge so you can bring it inside to work on it.
2. Grab yourself some gorilla glue, saran wrap and duct tape +anything else you think might help.
3. apply glue to all places you need to.
4. i used the saran wrap as a layer of protection between the armrest and the duct tape
5. use the duct tape to bring it all together. as mine dried it looked like i had a whole duct tape arm rest.
Tip = lay 2 pieces of duct tape sticky side up on the table, put saran wrap on tape, put arm rest on saran wrap padding side down, glue areas needing gluing, have someone press down on the center of the plastic arm rest as you bring the duct tape over it, that way they can hold the plastic and you can sort of tuck in and round the edges properly. Make sure you tuck the sides in right or you could end up with a plastic bulge from the broken plastic. (cutting some off might even work, I didn't need to though.)
Sorry about the crap write up but I think you get the idea. Hope it helps
