Default On page 68 (I think) of my owner's manual, it says...

something like "Do not rest your hand on the gear shifter when in gear, as it could cause premature wear on the transmission."

Huh?

I feel the shifter moving ever so slighty when driving, but what does resting your hand on it have to do with anything? Maybe they want you to keep both hands on the wheel at all times!?!

Default by resting your hand you apply pressure to the Syncromech on the gears. (more)

The Syncro is what gets the gears aligned in order to change gears. It works through a friction spin up.

Default That's right, and part of it is made of brass so it's soft metal . . .

You can hold it gently, just don't lean on it

Because the shifter forks ride in a groove that locks the syncros with the dogs on the gear. When
you rest your hand on the lever it eliminates the slack between the groove and the shift fork and
can cause the fingers on said forks to wear excessively. Holds true for all cars.

Default buzzing...

Anyone feel a slight buzzing on the shifter? I'm not resting my hand on it, but when I shift, there's a buzz or hum of the engine that can be felt through the shifter. This is my first stick shift car and don't know if this is normal or not.

Default I tend to notice shifter jumps in 2nd gear with throttle changes...

I was going to post separate thread about this but this explains it. Usually it is when I am in a traffic situation and want to shift into 3rd but suddenly have to let off the throttle.
Will keep hand pressure off from now on.
