Default Paging Audi Junkie: Mobil1 EP 15K oil

<center><img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41nOARRfmFL._SL500_AA280_.jpg"></center><p>
Whats the verdict on the oil? Is running it a 5.3L Chevy V8 for 15K miles a good thing?
Going to send the oil out for analysis in the next couple of days.

Default Just a few days ago he said the M1 5w-30 was the weakest M1 product

If you do like the old days change filter and top off fluid at 7.5k , I think it would be fine for a Chevy . He said 10w-30 or 0w-40 M1 was better. I've seen them go 150-250k on 3k changes of dino oil ,running like new, so I think you'd be fine. Will want to see the oil analysis from this.

Default Dave nailed it and I'll add that the EP line craps out at 12k.Try the HM, 0w-40 or regular M1 10w-30

The EP line was actually tested (a VERY difficult test) and showed all Groupe III content. Tom from Hatco, the original supplier of AMSoil, did the test and he's extremely reputable. For extended drains, the 0w-40 is safest, it thins to a 30 anyway. The 0w-30 is just fine too. If doing hard driving/towing try the 10w-30 HM. Regular M1 10w-30 is better than the 5w-30 and ususally there is no real defference between those two viscs.

Pennzoil Platinum is better than M1s regular line.

Default

Yes, it is. Believe it or not, it's actually a toss-up between Mobil 1 5w-30 and the 5w-30 EP.

Default I will send the oil in. I wish that blackstone would publish their data

in a database so you could query it based on the customer supplied information.

I ordered the analysis kit and will post on the board once everything comes back.

Default any reason not to use the M1 5w40 truck instead? when 5w30 is recommended. (or 0w30, 0w40)

It just seems like the best all-around oil, imo.

I'm about to put it into our 4.2L I6 Chevy Vortec in our '06 Saab 97X that we recently picked up. It's first oil change is coming due. Who knows that the PO used, but the dealer said they used dino 5w30 at 27k when they got it and we're about to turn 30k on it. I'd like to just run 5k intervals with the M1 5w40 Truck stuff. Not sure about which filter, but probably just going to go with whatever AutoZone or Advanced Auto is selling with those 5-qt specials. I need 7 for it, which I can't believe, but that's what the manual says. With 7 qts, I gotta believe that 7500-10k range would be do-able. but, for $25 with filter and then buying 2 more qts at market price should be around $40. I don't mind doing 5k for $40.

Default With the 30v , I've been using 10w40 Syntec Blend to 6k until I stocked up on Syntec.

On our van we've gone 114k on 5k changes on dino or blended Castrol 5w30 or 10w30. The Nissan just got its second 5k change since we bought it ,gets 5w40 Havoline Synthetic because of a small 4qt capacity.

Default Mobil 1 has such a vast product line, forgot to mention it.All"SuperSyn"except TDT 5w-40 aka Delvac1

Lighter oil nets best mpg and cold flow. Start-up wear is reduced for short-trippers. Soccer Mom = 5w-20. I know a guy who uses Motorcraft 5w-20 in his Enzo and Maybach with factory support. See, when the oil is cool, it's thick as **** anyway. A 5w-20 at +80C is like a 50 weight at +100C. I would not recommend that for you, but people nee to nkow their oil temps to choose a final visc. An old lady with a Passat 150hp 1.8t doing short trips should use 5w-30 synth over the Autobahn-tested 5w-40.

Default

Nice. "Blended" oils test out to have the very lowest wear rates.

Default so, M1 5w40 is not good at startups? doesn't sound good for a 1.8T, then. what about Castrol Syntec?

the 5w40 meets the VW 502/505 requirements, and then the 5w50 says that it exceeds them. AdvancedAuto has it on sale for $5.48/qt until Aug 30. I was thinking about stocking up on that for the A4. thoughts? better than M1 5w40 T/SUV? I wouldn't mind having the w50 for the track, and still have the 5w end for startup and winter months (or maybe switch back to M1 0w40 for winter).

and, back to my wife's 4.2L I6 ...what would you recommend? Daily driver and, at some point, will tow my A4 or boat. Of course, the manual says 5w30 like most do, and PO probably was just using generic dino 5w30 for his lease agreement and now we have it at 27k miles. 30k is due this weekend.
