Default Did you get the analysis yet? I ended up putting Mobil 1 5w30 EP into my Saab truck today.

Pepboys has a $24.99 deal for 5 qts and M1 filter. and, the shelves were empty.

it carries the GM spec, so how bad could it be?

so, 5k, 10k, or 15k? I'm probably going to just run it 5k and have an analysis done.

and, damn!, the filter is small on this engine.

Default Here's a guy with a bunch of UOAs on the 5.3, 5000 miles on Havoline, a breeze.

This is the older formula with a ton of moly. I use the new Deposit Shield version a lot. Unique shear-proof VIIs from Ornite allows the thinnest possible formulations. The wear rates speak for themselves. Zero tin and chrome. 6mg/kg Fe, Al at 1. Lead a fraction of previous oils. Used flashpoint of +405f is no joke in a $1-$2 dino oil. Just as good a product as M1 EP.

Anyway, just for reference. I would not even consider dropping the M1 EP before 8000 miles. It takes a long run for a UOA to even tell you anything. If I want a VOA, just look it up! Try 6 months.

btw- the search at Bob's sucks.<ul><li><a href="http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&amp;Number=1186413#Pos t1186413">http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&amp;Number=1186413#Pos t1186413</a</li></ul>

Default I havent found the time yet to do this. Everything is in the garage

except the time to do it. The bikes brakes acted up the other day, college started back up again... etc etc..

Maybe this weekend but no promises. Feel to come by and help out if you want =0

Default I understand. I'm just really interested since I put that oil into my wife's 4.2L Vortec in her Saab

So, I'm curious to see how it did in your 5.3L, which we couldn't find any of the Saab 97X with that engine in the area because it would be nice to have that extra 1000k in towing and the extra torque, but it only makes 10hp more than the I6 4.2

I plan to take a sample at around 4500-5000 to send to Blackstone to see if it needs to be changed or not -- or just change it anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing it last 7500-10K range, but I'm ok with 5K when you can get M1 for $4. however, that engine takes 7 qts and M1 doesn't always have that deal going on... it could be closer to $6.50 and $10 for a filter. time will tell... my guess is I'll just do 5k.
