Default er...no they dont, especially over time.

there is a difference between published viscosity and empirical viscosity.

Yeah, I can't even think of ANY lab results where it stayed in grade.

Default I've run M1 0w-40, M1 5w40, and Motul 5w40 V300 Motorsport on the track and have 5k intervals tested

The best was the Motul, and it always stayed cooler than either M1 which were about the same with the M1 5w40 be slightly better. The Motul cooled down faster too while the M1s were about the same. How do you do cooldowns at the track? I use all of the cooldown lap out of boost and probably drive slower than anyone else that lap. I then drive around the paddock in an area that isn't being used (if possible) until I see the oil temp start to drop and then park it with the hood up until I see the oil drop down to below 225F. takes about 10 minutes total of cooling down of the lap, 3-5 driving in the paddock and 3-5 idle (maybe longer).

If you're going to track your car a lot in the summer, it's best to do a front mount oil cooler. yes, I don't have one :/

Also, from the reading the analysis, why are you saying that it's not good? everything looks to be within spec and normal, except the TBN is low. May your engine needs 3k intervals when using the car on the track (in the summer), and using a different oil probably isn't going to change that.

Default which one(s)? I've seen the Motul 8100 X-cess 5w40, SPECIFIC 5w40, and V300 5w40.

Are the first two the same? Isn't the Specific stuff only a semi-syn oil?, but it does have the VW 505.1 spec.

This is what I used:

Default gotcha. I had great results with the V300 5w40. here's the analysis, if you want to comment:

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/10901/blackstone_motul_300v_5w40.jpg"></center><p>I have the 105k change coming up and will probably have that M1 5w40 tested. The other 2 on that sheet are both M1 0w40.

no idea what's going on with the lead.

Default All those wear metals look high to me. GC returns a Fe wear rate as low as 1mg/kg 1000 miles.

Despite BS "averages". I think those wear rates come from hot thin oil service. It could seriously be better. Try Rotella TS, Mobil 1 10w-40 HM. 2 Cycle oil in the fuel might be the trick. 5000 miles runs are not long enough to tell much about oil, except if the visc is right, imo the oil is hot and the visc comes too low. Oil cooler would be a plus. The doghouse cooler from an 1991 100 is like $60.

Default I posted before I thought about it much

I did change it at 3k intervals this summer but I just thought I might need to switch oils

I'll run a cool down lap if they give it to us. Then I'll do a lap around the paddock and then just let the car idle for awhile.
