Default some more info....

I installed the DP88 on my gf's Jetta.

Precision Interface Electronics (www.pie.net) makes VW/Audi Adapters for the 6 and 8 disc changers. I believe Blitzsafe may also make similar adapters, but I think PIE has done more research. AFAIK, the Blitz adapter is similar to the "cheaper" PIE adapter, see below:

For my gf's Jetta, PIE lists two different adapters, for each changer. The more expensive adapter allows for the mix or random function, and direct access for discs 7 and 8 on the 8 disc changer. (i.e., press disc 5 2x or disc 6 2x to get to 7&8) The cheaper adapter does not (this is because the more expensive one actually has an interface box that interprets the signal from the HU, whereas the cheaper one is a direct wire connection.

For Audis, the PIE online catalog doesn't specifically tell you what the adapter does, and they only list one adapter for each changer (6 or 8 disc). You will probably need to contact them to find out exactly whether the Audi adapter allows direct disc access to 7&8 on the 8 disc model. You might also contact Blitzsafe (www.blitzsafe.com) to find out more info on their adapters.
HTH,

Default Seems as if the monsoon head unit is the same as symphony

Connector wise. I'm gonna go take the gf's unit out of her 2001 jetta gls and try to plug it in..

The symphony non-bose sure does sound alot like the non-monsoon dub setup..

Default That is a good deal... You might also look at....

www.refurbdepot.com

When I bought the 8 disc unit (DP-88) for my gf (Christmas present, ordered 11/2001) the unit was $108. I bought the adapter from Crutchfield for $50. Grand total w/ shipping was about $180.

Mind you, the DP88 I bought was a factory refurb. So far, it's worked great. I have heard some "bad" things about refurbdepot, but my experience w/ them was decent. YMMV.

Default AH HA!!!! You "didn't bother" with the Ground Cable!! ???

AFAIK, the adapter from PIE, is an actual protocol converter... The ground cable completes the circuit, (as well as acting as a noise reducing ground.) The adapter takes power from the changer-to-HU cable, and then functions as more than just a "pass-thru" device.

For the adapter to function properly, connect the ground cable. You should then be able to access discs 7 and 8 directly. The adapter needs power via the ground to be able to "interpret" that pressing button 5 2x means "go to disc 7"

Try that, (& let me know if I'm right.)

Default Oops. Nevermind. You have the "older" PIE adapter. ..

the AUDPAN988 doesn't support direct disc access.

That adapter is not (no longer) listed on the PIE site. The only one available is the AUD/PC-PAN8, which does support direct disc access...

Sorry for the confusion.
