Anyone know of a "safe" parking garage down by Bowery/Delancy? By safe I mean my car will a) still be there when I return b) not have any additional miles on it and c) not smell like the valet had dinner while sitting in my car. TIA

sorry, i don't know what it's called or exactly where it's located, i know recognize it by sight. but anyhow, if you're going south on bowery, it'll be on your right side. like i said, they're about one-two blocks north of canal, and it's a decent parking garage.
when i'm down in that area, i usually just park on the street, but that's only for a limited period of time, and i don't really recommend that. i only do it cuz i'm a cheapo.

1) For the ultimate in safety, park it at one of the better downtown hotels. The valets are usually hotel employees and less likely to be fly-by-night types. They also park nicer cars, on average, and won't be that impressed with an A4 (in this case, a good thing...). The main downside is that it will be pricey. The Regent Hotel on Wall Street charges $50 for the day.
2) There are a few lots around the South Street Seaport that during the week are filled with Wall Street banker's cars (i.e., expensive cars). Again, these lot attendees are less likely to be joy riders and theives.
With that said, don't leave anything of value in the car. When you pull in, don't cop an attitude with the attendant - be friendly. Also, when you pick the car up, do a walk around to chack for damage.
I park my car in NYC garages several times each month and fortunately have never had a major problem (knock on wood!).
