Passat and A4 1.8t ECU are interchangeable!
I just want to post this to help anyone who is wanting to use a Passat ecu in an A4 or vice versa. I was not able to find a difinitive answer on the forum so here it is. If you have the exact same part number i.e. 8D0907557P, then you can use that ecu in both cars. There is no need to have the ecu recoded before you send it off (at least with APR), just specify that you want the ecu recoded for whatever model it will end up in i.e. 1999 Audi A4. I found this ecu on www.car-part.com for $115 from a 1998 Passat and verified that it will work through APR.

This is helpfull knowledge for those that want to have a spare ecu because of warranty issues but would still like to put a performance chip in their car.
