I got my car used about a year ago. There have been some rock chips on the front bumper. The small ones didn't bothor me too much, but one got really big while washing my car. I decided to get it painted along with the other rock chips.
It turns out that my car was probably in an accident before I had it, and the front bumper cover was not properly prepared for paint. So now the paint can peel off very easily at the rock chips. You can see in the picture below the bald spot where the paint comes up. I took it to the dealer where I got the car, and he directed me to their seperate body shop (the dumass gave me the wrong directions and address, but i found it anyway).
I was quoted about $600. That includes a new bumper cover and painting it (striping the paint off the old one would cost more).
To sum everything up, the dealer sold me a car with a messed up bumper and I have to pay for it (they're probably the ones that messed up the bumper). Hopefully the insurance can pay for it, but I have'nt done anything yet. What should I do? Somehow force them to pay for it?

plus go to carfax.com and see what report it gives about your car any accident records , print them too if any, and go to manager of the dealer you bought and complain... you should be able to get something about of it...

shop that does all the major paint work for my dealership, and they said the dealer has some schmoe come over and basically spray paint it at dealership. Now my friends car was sent to the actual body shop to be done properly. Talk to the service manager, and/or general manager. Good luck!

...and I had a very similar if not almost identical situation happen to me. I've had my used 98.5 silver A4 for almost a year like you. I too had some peeling and bubbling looking stuff on my bumper. I knew however when I bought the car that they repainted the bumper for me because it had some dings and stuff. But the dealer used one of those guys that come to the lot and basically paint over the old stuff. Well I guess that's what happens over time with this seemingly cheap method. So I talked it over with the salesman who sold me the car. I think I was lucky in that this guy's been very cool to me so he hooked me up and basically I told them I didn't want them to just repaint over it like before, but I wanted them to take it to a body shop and redo the whole damn thing in a spray booth, professionally, etc. Luckily they said they'd cover it and they did. It looks brand new and I wish I could've had them do the lowers too! I guess you should really try to go up the chain. Perhaps the General Manager, or like me, I got to talk to the manager of the used car section. I wasn't going to make big deal about it at first since I thought I'd maybe replace the bumper with an aftermarket one but after thinking about it, the principle in itself bothered me so I wanted THEM to fix it. I was fortunate and wish you good luck with them. I think maybe because they told me that it was repainted before I bought it is why it's covered but I don't know if that's the case for you.
