Perhaps these are dumb questions (inside this post): How does the upcoming NAV system work?

The Audi NAV system we're getting in the North American A4/S4 is most likely NOT the 5" color LCD screen in the center console. It's probably just an "enhancement" of the red L.E.D. display used by the Trip Computer within the instrument cluster.
So my questions are:
1. How will you "tell" the system where you're trying to go? (so it can give you directions from your current location)
2. Will the system have a GPS system to determine where you are?
3. How will the system communicate your location and/or driving directions on such a small display, so as to not require an unsafe amount of taking your eyes off the road?
TIA, Scott
(remove "X" for email replies)
