I recently had the chance to drive the MB for about a week and found the MB to have much better acceleration as compared to my 1.8TQ GS VBL (LOTS of low end torque!). I then did some research and was very surprised to fine that the MB's specs were almost identical to my Audi - 185hp, 200ft-lb at about 3200lbs curb wt. Has anyone ever drove the MB and experienced the same thing? IMO the MB felt alot more powerful - why?????

The 1.8T's turbo is touted as having minimal turbo lag, but even minimal lag is more than what a supercharger produces.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=161"</a><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/a4registrydl.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

MB belongs to my 81 year old mother-in-law. She loves it! What does that tell you? My Audi is MUCH more fun to drive and connected to the road.<p>2000A4Avant2.8Tip-S

I know it is not the same car as the C-class, but it has the same engine. Anyway, my father got the sport package on it which comes with the manual trans. Not only is my APR chipped 00' A4 faster, it also has a MUCH better gear box. The shifter in the MB SUCKS! I miss shifts in it all the time. I would muck rather my A4.

I know they have a manual option in the forthcoming SLK320 with a V6. But I didn't realize that there was also a manual in the SLK230.
Not that I am in the market to get one. But at least they offer a manual now! :-)
A friend of mine has an SLK (automatic). His car *might* be faster than my GIAC chipped A4 1.8TQMS.
We have not raced -- he would surely win in a road race because he has little regard for traffic laws.
But the SLK does have a 200-300 lb weight advantage over an A4 Quattro.
Whatever... they are completely different cars.
Each one great at its respective function.
