<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/80710/phatnoise2.jpg"></center><p>So finally yesterday all the parts arrived to install my new Phatnoise system. I took a ton of pics but they didn't turn out very well, so I'll only post a couple.
After seeing phatnoise for $120 I couldn't resist. Here's what I bought.
PhatNoise Digital Car Audio System - Passat - $119.40
From <a href="http://www.1stvwparts.com">www.1stvwparts.com</a>
PhatNoise Installation Kit - $11.18
ZVW 269 300
From <a href="http://www.1stvwparts.com">www.1stvwparts.com</a>
Audi PhatNoise Adapter cable - $47.87
000 051 592A
From <a href="http://www.worldimpex.com">www.worldimpex.com</a>
The PhatNoise Installation Kit was a total waste on money as I didn't use it at all. It would be useful if you just wanted to mount it in the trunk and not the stock CD changer location. The part number is the same for VW and Audi applications.
It really doesn't mater which phatnoise you buy, the Passat one came with an adapter cable I could not use.
1. Remove the hard plastic cover at the back of the trunk. It's held in by a bunch of Phillips screws. This is the cover that goes all the way across the back. (This step is probably optional but I found it much easier to pull it all the way out.)
2. Using a flat blade screwdriver pop off the circular piece of plastic.
3. Firmly but to not too rough pull the trunk wall lining away. It's held on by some clips that that feel like they are never going to give way. What I ended up doing was getting a flashlight locating the clips then pressing out from behind the lining.
4. Remove the 5 bolts holding the CD changer support in. One of the 5 is tucked up behind the CD changer. I used a real long socket extension to get it out.
5. Unplug the stock CD Changer plug (round plug) and the two other cables that attach to the bottom of the CD changer support.
6. Now looking at the phatnoise and looking at the stock CD changer mounting points you may think you'll be able to re-use the screws and holes. But you can't if you want the door to be able to close without touching the DMS cartridge. So what I did, as suggested by other Audi World posts, is to get some heavy duty Velcro and Velcro the phatnoise where I wanted it.
7. Connect the cable and re-assemble is a piece of cake.

a particular song? Do you essentially rely on play lists? Is it frustrating to quickly find a song / artist without spending a lot of time searching? Are the voice prompts slow or fast?
Reason I ask is I am debating getting Icelink Plus for my iPOD, or a phatnoise (phatnoise is cheaper) The clean install of the phatnoise and the fact its cheaper make me want it more than the iPOD solition....but worried about how hard it is to find desired music.

I haven't used it a ton yet but if you properly fill out all the MP3 tags (called ID3 IIRC) it is fairly easy to find as you can search on, playlist, album, artist, and genre. But my guess is if you are looking for a particular song it's going to take some hunting. It all depends on how well you organize the MP3s using the manager software.
