had the same problem a couple months ago as what you are describing and it was plug wires.
You can kind of "force" the problem to happen and check for arcing if you mist the wires and coil packs LIGHTLY with a spray bottle, then check under the hood in a dark garage. You should be able to see them arc if that's indeed what's wrong.
