I've been looking for a paint that was suitable for repairing something-more-than-little scratches in Audi rims (this after a nasty confrontation with a curb while driving my friend's S4). After standing in the local Pep Boys for 10 or 15 minutes, going blind while comparing the 10 or so sparkled-silver paint caps, I chose the Subaru 5604 spray can. Initially we tried the Plastikote Toyota 3230 from the jar. Maybe it's OK for a little line scratch, but it just didn't cut it for this application. These were more like brush-burns. Anyway, after the initial prep with progressively finer grades of sandpaper, the triple-somthing steel wool, wiping down, and masking the tire, I tried the 5604. After one coat, applied very lightly in quick passes from a foot away, it looks very good. Though it is maybe a quarter or half shade darker than the original it blends in very well. The overall color match is very close and there's definitely a better sparkle match than with the Toyota 3230.
Apologies for the cross-post (S4).
