Searched the forum but could not find a complete step by step troubleshooting procedure.
Background:
1997 A4 tqm (92,000 miles).
Blinking CEL, car shuttering, loss of power, started while driving.
DTCs:
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-10 - -
16686 - Cylinder 2: Misfire Detected
P0302 - 35-10 - -
Cleared codes and swapped coil packs and spark plugs for cyl 2 and 3. Started the engine and got the same codes (but with 35-00 instead of 35-10 extension, not sure if it means something).
What should be my next step?
Thanks for your help!

Have anybody else had a problem with following this procedure? I could not make it work, the test showed an open circuit for all cylinders...
Now, this is something interesting. Just before taking the ICM off, I try to start the engine - and suddenly it runs perfectly! I still take the ICM out to test, and after one hour put it back. Misfire! Tighten the screws, play with connectors, start the engine - no misfires. Looks like I might just have a loose ICM connector. Will try to clean the contacts again tomorrow and will let you guys know.
