I was moving and the my only key got lost in the move (1998 A4 Quattro). When I bought the car it only came with the one key. The closest dealer to me is 2.5 hours away. He said that they can cut a key for me by my VIN# but I will have the car towed to the dealer to have the key programmed or the car will not run. Is their anyway to avoid having to tow the vehicle. I recently purchased a used key on EBAY so that I would have a spare, but of course I have not had the time to drive to the dealer and have it cut, nor have I programmed the remote.

Should be easy enough. Does your car have a little key icon on the instruments? If so, then you will have to go to the dealer because you have an imobilizer set up. Otherwise just use the new key and go.
