Re: Skip the K&N and go for the Turbo5 intake instead. It will help more then the K&N drop in filter
Did you know that the LLTek / Turbo5 filters have approximately the same surface area? The flow restriction would IMHO primarily come from the pressure drop across the filter element...which is a function of area and flow resistance per unit area. So if the filter element is no less restrictive...then the only restriction could be the snorkel...and if that's true then the only other place you can get air from is...the engine bay, a place you sure as hell don't want air from unless you're really desperate for air and even at that I'd rather tolerate some more pressure drop than a bunch of superheated air. I put my stock airbox in this weekend (have a Turbo5 as well) and have to honestly say...the car feels better / smoother at low speeds with the stock airbox...stoplight to stoplight driving the car seem peppier so that might lend some to the hot air is bad claim. At higher speeds...it feels exactly the same IMHO...you don't get the cool noises (and trust me they're sorely missed) but the car performance is in general unchanged.
Only real diff now is I know I'm getting cold air...the flow to the MAF is correct and I'll pass SMOG visual...ohh and the dealer won't harass me. I've talked to Clark at length on this issue...and have done much of my own testing which I'm not going to get into here. He says it makes HP on the Dyno...and I believe him...but do note that most Dyno runs are done with the hood popped wide open...not the same as what you see when you're driving around town with the hood down...ahem.
Now let's see them thar brakes :-)
