Polish/Wax on 2001.5 A4 Brilliant Black
Any recommendations for a good polish or wax? In my first week of owning the car, a bird crapped on the hood. You can still see the mark from the 1" by 1" dropping.
I also want to get out some MINOR scratches. I'm using TurtleWax car soap for washing it and I'm drying it with a chamois (love squeezing out all the water and reusing it). I've had the car for 4 months now and I haven't waxed or polished it yet.
Should I wax or polish it?
How often should I do it?
What product should I use?
Thanks.

this is what I've picked up..
-most preffered wax: One Grand Blitz Wax
-second most preffered: Meguiar's Gold Glass Liquid Car Wax
-most preffered polish/glave: 3M Imperial Hand Glaze
-second most preffered: Meguiar's Gold Glass Polish
DISCLAIMER: this is my no means an accurate statistical sampling It's just what I remember seeing the most frequently.
The 3M IHG will take care of your scratches, immediatelly follow up with some wax. Any combo of the above is good, altho most people tend to always use 3M IHG as their glaze/polish type product.
Being that your car is brand new, it shouldn't need the IHG except where you have scratches.
It seems that most people apply the IHG 2 or 3 times a year, depending on where you live and the climate. Waxing frequency also varies based on that. I havn't actually seen much talk of waxing frequency, but I'm guessing every 1 or 2 months is a good interval. All of those products are very easy to apply and buff off, all by hand.

I used IHG, and McGuiars High Tech Yellow wax..
You may want to use something more gentle, like McGuiar's #7 polish glaze..

I am going to tell you what I tell everyone
Go to www.carcareonline.com
They will tell you everything you need to know.
Since your car is new...DO NOT use 3M ihg or claybar.
Just read up on it there is alot of info and it will give you a headach if you go to the store not knowing what you are going to buy.

I have the same car.
I found that is scratches ver, very easily if you are not careful. You need to make sure that you use a high-quality wash mit, or other safe washing device. I use Meguire's pink-colored wash gel and have an orbital buffer. The buffers are cheap ($20) and save a lot of arm work. I use the gold class stuff, I like it a lot. Also the final inspection spray (in tan bottle, by Mguire's) is great for periodic quick wipe downs, only takes 5 minutes and makes it shine like it was just wax. I like the 3M Microfiber cloth for wiping with final inspection. ALso the California car duster can come in handy since a little dust or lint makes black look really dirty.

Re: I have the same car.
I'm washing my car with a regular bone-shaped sponge. Is that bad? I better change my ways...I've been trying to take care of my car and I don't want to screw it up bc of washing it.

I use a bone shaped sponge on my brilliant black...
don't worry about it. It should be fine, just wash off the sponge with the hose a couple of times while you are washing the car to get the dirt and other crap off of it.
