Is it possible to "clean off" o2 sensors?

Default I mean the sensor itself. I supose cleaning it would be a "known" thing. Probally it gets poisoned.

By trans-metallics in the afterburn, like manganese, phosphorous and whatever. Throttle body cleaning does not seem to do them much good either.

gotcha, looks like replacing the fronts are the way to go.

Default ah, yeah just do the pre-cat O2 sensors unless the rears are throwing codes

the rear o2 sensors have no effect on the fuel mixture, they just make sure the cat is working efficiently.

nope, no codes, but I did run the readiness checks and it said something about o2 emissions not pass

Default I wouls guess that they just get plugged with crap or contaminiated...

...or the heaters burn out. If you google up some O2 theory, it's interesting reading.

Default Meh. No code, no change is my mantra. All originals in my car at 165k, on the A6....

...3 out of 4 are original at 247k.
