It would be neat to have a push start like the S2000.. Has anyone ever done one before?<p><font color="#000081" size="3"></font>

That is something that is possible in most cars, but the novelty would probably wear off. It should not be too costly to do, but I would worry about electrical/starter and warranty problems.

I'm sure it would be easy to do a permanant "hot wire" connected to a button, but anyone breaking into the car could start it and just drive away.
In the S2000 there is still an imobilizer "key" that has to placed into a socket that reads the rolling code before the button will work, I beleive the Z8 has a similar system. The real trick would be getting a coding module like that into your A4, which doesn't have any kind of rolling code imobilizer implemented into the ignition and fob on current models. It possible could be done with some kind of RF link, but that leaves you open to hacking and interferance<p><a href="http://www.meniscusdesign.com/a4/"> <img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/jasonh_aw_sig.gif" border=0 target="_top"></a>

Keep the same key stuff for turning on the ignition, but instead of turning the key to a start position, wire that into a button. So you get in, put in the key and turn it to on, then push the START button. Silly but fun.
I wonder if there's a single wire that comes out of the steering column to indicate start?

I thought he wanted to lose the need for a key, I guess I was thinking there was a practical purpose to this! ;-) It would be kinda cool at the track to just jump in and hit the "fire it up" button though.<p><a href="http://www.meniscusdesign.com/a4/"> <img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/jasonh_aw_sig.gif" border=0 target="_top"></a>
