Power steering noise when cold

Re: Power steering noise when cold
The first thing to check would be your power steering fluid level. If it is OK, then your power steering pump bearings may be worn and a new pump might be needed at some point in the future. You will know when the noise gets worse and doesn't go away after a while. If you are lucky, it might take a very long time to reach that point.

The same thing happens to my old econobox. It is usually just the early signs of wear on the steering pump. As long as it goes away after you drive it, you are probably still a very long way from any type of failure of the pump. Now without hearing how loud this sound is, it may actually even be normal in very cold weather (again, poor lubrication when fluid is still cold). Finally, just double check that you are not low on the fluid level.
