Power Steering Pump Chatter/Clatter/Noise when cold
Hi,
My power steering pump makes chattering noise and metal slopping noise when I first start up my car, then goes away completely. No change in actual steering at all. It almost sounds like a metal piece inside before it gets lubricated clanking around. Is it cavitation (is this normal) or could it be a part wearing out that when heated up stops? Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks

You have some more time before the power steering pump dies. Mine made that noise for about 20000 miles before the power steering dies. When it died it when from working to the pully almost falling out and no fluid in about 30 miles. Easy to replace. you can do it without taking the front of the car off. Also get some OE pressure hose washers. I tried a bunch and they all leaked until I went to the dealer and picked up some. Applicable to 2.8v6 30v

I think I have had this same issue for more then a 100k miles now. When u first start driving car cold and hit the gas u hear a metal slapping/tapping sound. Seems harder u hit gas louder it is. I never seem to hit gas hard until coolant is warmed up n it goes away by then.
