I just got my OEM Audi windshield replaced due to a run-in with a rock. I replaced it with a PPG windshield.
The PPG windshield has much less distortion than the Audi glass. From the sound caused by sand and pebbles that hit the PPG, it seems like it is harder.
There is, however, a great deal of distortion around the bottom edge of the windshield. Since that is not an important viewing area, it's not dangerous at all. It is a bit of a distraction. I'm sure I'll get used to this soon.

I don't notice ANY distortion with my oem windshield.
But the PPG has lots of distortion at the bottom? No thanks.
Did you really notice that much distortion from the oem windshield? And is the improvement from the PPG really worth the distortion at the bottom? Not trying to flame you here, just curious =)
