Default Premium (91 octance) vs. Ethanol (89 octane)....

My friend was trying to tell me that I can put ethanol in my car...I didnt know what to tell him. I know its not as good for performance, but does it really matter?

yes it matters, i've heard that the car pings if you dont use the right octane. where I come from (Sydney Australia) we have unleaded (91 octane) Premium (93 octane) and the fuel i use, Optimax, that what Shell calls it, (98 octane) the engine runs smoother and you can feel a slight increase in power.

Default You can....

worse comes to worse.. but why would you want to?

You may use 89-94 octane depending on geographical location.

If I had a beater.. I would put in the cheapest octane I can find. For my Audi... I put in 93-94 octane. When I am at my house in vegas I put 91 in my car(not an Audi) there. Why? Cause I don't trust less.. well not to say that 91 isn't the best either.

I believe that the car is designed for at least 93 octane and 91 octane only if it's really an emergency

Yeah i am using 91 octane right now, and so far thats pretty much the best i have seen around here (Iowa). I guess that will have to do.

Default Let's play a little game...

for arguements sake we will name this game..

RTFM

If you look in the back of your manual it will describe the type of fuel that you can put in your car.

Let me easily get this for you because I am bored and have nothing better to do.

and I quote..

Use only unleaded fuel in your vehicle.

The fuel recommended for your vehicle is unleaded premium grade gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 91 AKI (CLC) or 94 RON (ROZ)

If unleaded premium gasoline is not available your vehicle may also be operated using unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87 AKI (CLC) or 91 RON (ROZ). However, this may lead to a slight loss of engine power.

Do not use any fuel with octane ratings lower than 87 AKI or 91 RON.

Yaddah Yaddah Yaddah.

You can thank me later.

I too get bored sometimes and have only had the car for a week so really into it. The aussie manual cause it says the same but has a note not to run the car on 91 octane unless necessary

Default Ummm, Ethanol will eat your gas tank +lines if you use it often

You must have a special gas tank and lines to run it regularly.
