Default Problems hardwiring radar dectector

I have kind of a strange thing going on with my BEL detector. It was hard-wired where the windshield meets the roof, just to the right of the rearview mirror. Sometimes, when I plug the detector in, the radio blips off. Usually, I just turn the radio off and on again and it comes back, albeit reset, but a few times this happened the radio wouldn't come back on. Thinking I had blown a fuse, I opened the fuse box and examined the fuse for the radio, found nothing wrong with it and put it back in. Lo and behold, the radio worked again. This has happened about 3 times. Now I just leave the detector plugged in so I avoid this, but I'm still curious what might be going on here.

Any ideas?

Default Great questions

Unfortunately, I only have one answer and a guess. It was wired by a shop called SoundCraft in Long Island which installs radar detectors, radios and mobile phones in cars. They are known to be pretty good. No idea what fuse it is tapped into, but the fact that it keeps blowing out the radio gives me a clue. No clue where it is grounded.

Default Fuse 27 is the rear wiper It's open open (unused) on the sedans.

As far as teh radio, I'd suspect the radio is VERY sensitive to power drops. They probably tapped into the line that feeds the radio, and when you turn on the detector, the drain is enough to kill the radio.
