Is this the proper way to use the a/c?
I heard that one should turn off the a/c at least 30 seconds before turning off his car, in order to maintain a good a/c system.
Is this a good idea?

if you have a manual climate control, I've heard this is a good idea...
if you have an automatic climate control, you don't need to bother doing that.
I personally have never done that, nor has my family, and I haven't seen one of the a/c systems in the car suffer because of it.

Never heard that. But it IS a good idea to run the A/C
regularly. By running it, you keep the compressor lubricated. I think the recommendation is for at least 10 mins a week. Personally, I almost always use mine unless the roof/windows are open.

True...
It gives the system a chance to dry out using outside air. People who haven't have reported a mildewy smell when they return to their car and use the AC later. People who always ran their AC, eventually noticed that the smell did not go away.
