Protective film on cars

Has anyone used the 3M type film on their hood/lights of the car to protect it from chips etc... I have the 2002 A4 and was looking for some one that has it or had it on their vehicle to see if it really works and if it fades if someone took it off?
Thanks!

self installation is difficult but not impossible. Just take a lot of time and a lot of soap water. But now I have seen how's done, I don't think I have a problem install it myself next time.
This is probably the best investment mod for your car. My car does not have one rock chip where's covered.

my US-spec projectors, then my e-codes, then Ben's (BRK) Xenon HID Euros. I know Andy Hedin has the other set of my fogs on his S4 Avant (since the package is the same for the A4 and S4. They throw in both types of fogs.) and Daphne Bogart has had them on both her S4 and S4 Avant, but I think she just got a roll of it and fabricated them herself on the Avant. Additionally, I talked one of my close friends in getting them for his 01.5 Passat Tip 4-motion, since he too does a lot of highway traveling, namely, on the PA Tp.
They're impossible to see, assuming you line them up correctly. I haven't seen any fading, but they've only been on for a few months. The only issue is waiting for the alcohol/water solution to evaporate. I still have a few little solution bubbles that are taking their good ol' time going away. I think the soon approaching summer heat will take them out. The bubbles went away much faster on my US-spec lights when I did this in Aug. 2001.
Personally, I wish I would have done the front bumper, but since I chose to go with the Europlate to cover up the 3 fugly holes from the front plate bracket, I didn't feel like fabricating the cover. Plus, I don't like the line that you can definitely see across the hood. But, IMHO, the light protection is a must and you can't see them.

Originally had complete Xpel kit on my 2001, hit a flying microwave oven on the freeway, $3400.00 later, got Stonegard. Stonegard fits better and has better coverage than Xpel but is 2X as much. Stonegard could cover more on the front bumper as I am getting some chips above the film, below the headlights, but I5 in LA is brutal for flying debris (even microwave ovens!!). I still highly recommend it.
