Default Pulled the following codes from the wife's B5.5 1.8T Passat..

16684 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
16688 Cyl #4 Misfire
17536 Fuel trim Bank 1 (Mult) System too lean

What do you guys think? Looks like I need to replace the coil pack or plug in #4, but what's the deal with the fuel trim code? Car still runs perfectly, I can't feel any ignition misfires...

Default I wouldn't worry about it if this is the first issue. Reset and see if you get another one

could be lots of things. could be a fuel injector... I'd wait and see what you get again. That's just me though huh.

Default Not sure, car is a '01.5. Thing is, I'm not getting any

symptoms. Car runs perfectly still...

Default You don't have an ignition amp. Your lean code may be a broken vac hose.

Swap the coil pack into another cylinder, clear codes, and see if the code reappears in the cylinder you swapped to. Misfires are common, a recurring misfire is likely a faulty coilpack.

Did you ever get the coilpacks replaced? 2001's were recalled - check what letter your current coilpacks end in (part number on the coilpack itself). A new set (I would replace all at once if you can spare the cash) will run you $90 from ECS.

Default This car wasn't part of the recall campaign for the coilpacks.

I'll most likely just replace all of them along with a new set of plugs...

Default Like i said, don't fix something that is not broken. there are lots of reasons to misfire

that doesn't mean you have a bad part. Why spend all the money if you don't have to. You may find it is ok. I just think most are too quick to just replace things. Just my thoughts...

Your ignition amps are in your coilpacks on the new cars. That is why there was a recall on the coilpacks, because the same circuit was failing as in the ignition control modules, that so readily fail in the earlier cars.

Default Lean code = bad MAF.

Log MAF readings, I bet there's an issue.

BTW, I sold the red A4 today.

Default I've had the same codes on my A4...

the lean code was a vac line, and I'm still trying to run down the misfire.
