Default Pulled the trigger on the hubtamer...

And two front wheel bearings, total cost ~ $330, about $150 less than my local shop for both sides, I plan on doing a tech article on this you everyone, but I won't be able to get to doing the labor for at least 2 weeks.

I'll keep you posted.

hubtamer

Default Thanks for the link

Think I might have to invest in one of those...not having to use a press would be very beneficial.

Default Make sure you have a BIG impact gun...... I have a similar tool and....

my 1000 ftlb 3/4 inch drive gun hardly budged it. I had a 3/4 to 1/2 inch impact adaptor which I snapped off (I was in a pinch and no one stocks 3/4 drive sockets, go figure). Also beware of the tech article because some years you have to pull the bearings, not push them because there is a lip in the housing that they seat against. ALSO, some years don't have a 14mm axel bolt, mine had a 24mm bolt. Trust me on this one, everything went wrong when I did mine. It was a 2 day ordeal. Now time for pictures.....

Brokeen adaptor from pulling bearing sleeve. Side note, you can't cut the sleeve it's made out of the hardest material on earth.

The lip I spoke of, there is no way to push the bearing as noted in the tech section. Not saying the article is wrong, just doesn't work for a 97Q.

All else failed so I took it out and used a press.

Default Nice pics, had similar experience, comments...

I was told by Sir Tools, INc. to try and not impact if possible. So, I ended up wrenching them out with a 3/4 drive rachet(yes , seriously BIG).
Also hit the rust & corrosion issue on the hub(at least on our car, have done numerous since).
Definitely nice to have a press also as a fail safe.

LOL, I was told by a mechanic friend to use a impact. Oh well? Next time will be easier for sure!
